Volunteer Opportunities Lebedeff Eldercare Resource Center Volunteer Responsibility: Resource Center volunteers welcome patients, family members and community members as they enter the facility. They notify the appropriate person of their arrival. They serve as a guide to the Resource Center materials for caregivers and the general public. They assist in keeping Resource Center materials in order under the direction of Marilee Shore, our volunteer Resource Center Director. They help with periodic mailing and material preparation tasks for educational events. Qualifications: pleasant personality; willingness to learn about materials available to the public on aging, caregiving, and memory disorders. Time commitment: one four-hour shift weekly. Special Events Volunteers Special events volunteers help with publicity, set up, and registration for educational workshops and fundraising events on an as needed basis. Tasks may include special mailings (addressing, stuffing, stamping tasks). Supervised by Katie Wiles, Development Director. Qualifications: willingness to serve. Time commitment: approximately one half to one full day per quarter Garden Volunteers MemoryCare has a memorial garden on site that requires regular upkeep with weeding and periodic plantings. Supervised by Katie Wiles, Development Director. Qualifications: enjoyment of gardening, willingness to serve Time commitment: seasonal with two half days per month during spring, summer, and fall. Patient Companions Initial assessments at MemoryCare last three to four hours; return visits one hour. For safety, our nurses and social worker can never leave our patients alone while the physician is assisting the family with educational needs. Patient companions allow them to safely leave the room to attend to other care management duties for brief periods. Supervised by our care managers. Qualifications: sociable individuals who have some prior experience in clinical settings or providing companionship to Alzheimer's patients. We will train persons interested in making a commitment to volunteer work in this area. Time commitment: minimum of one half day twice a month; capacity for up to one full day a week. Due to the confidential nature of our work, we require all volunteers to review MemoryCare's privacy policy and sign a confidentiality agreement. Caregiver Mentors Caregiving can create new and unexpected stresses. Individuals who already have experience caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or other type of memory disorder can provide wonderful guidance and support for another caregiver beginning the same journey.
