Our Staff
Director, Margaret A. Noel, MD, FACP, established MemoryCare in June 2000. She graduated from Davidson College and UNC School of Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine and a two year fellowship in geriatrics at Wake Forest University. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine with Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. She has been involved in the education of medical residents, medical, nursing, social work, and pharmacy students interested in geriatrics. She is actively involved in providing community education as well. She is a certified medical director with extensive prior experience in long term care settings. She holds an adjunct faculty appointment from UNC School of Medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Geriatrics Society. She has served on the Board and as Secretary of the American Medical Directors Association and is a past president of the North Carolina Medical Directors Association.Curriculum Vitae
Associate Director, Virginia H. Templeton, MD, joined MemoryCare in 2002 after completing her residency at the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, NC. Dr. Templeton is a board certified Family Physician and has focused her practice on care of geriatric patients. She received her BA in Medical Anthropology from Brown University and graduated from the State University of the New York School of Medicine in 1998 with a Doctor of Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Directors Association. Dr. Templeton holds an adjunct faculty appointment from UNC School of Medicine and coordinated the geriatric curriculum for the family practice residency program from 2002 to 2005. She remains involved in the education of resident physicians as well as medical, nursing, social work, and pharmacy students interested in geriatrics. She is actively involved in community education efforts and is a member of the steering committee for North Carolina’s Division of Aging Family Caregiver Support Program. Curriculum Vitae
Staff Physician, Thomas S. Kaluzynski, MD, FACP, joined MemoryCare in July 2006. Before joining our staff, Dr. Kaluzynski practiced internal medicine and geriatrics in Burnsville and Spruce Pine, North Carolina and has been a member of the Spruce Pine Community Hospital Medical Staff since 1985. An active member of the North Carolina Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP), Dr. Kaluzynski served as chapter president in 2003. A trained facilitator with the ACP's Practicing Physician Education Program, Dr. Kaluzynski also serves as a clinical assistant professor at the UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He received a BS degree from Fairfield University and his MD degree from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency with the Michigan State University Associated Hospitals in Lansing, MI and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine with Added Qualifications in Geriatrics. Misty Haire, RN joined the MemoryCare staff in September 2006 as Nurse Care Manager. She received her nursing degree from Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Mississippi in 1997. She has worked in hospital and outpatient settings both as a clinician and teacher. Most recently she worked with the Aseracare Hospice in Corinth, Mississippi where she served on committees to establish specific Alzheimer’s Disease programs and ensure family-centered care.
Phylis Fields, RN joined the MemoryCare staff in October 2006 as a Nurse Care Manager. She received her Associated Degree in Nursing in 1971 from Delaware County Community College. She worked for eleven years as the Director of Family Services for the Alzheimer’s Association of Western North Carolina where she initiated numerous programs for caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders. In her work to assist caregivers, she was the administrator of the first Family Care Respite Home for dementia patients in the country. She also initiated church training programs and started a telephone support program. She has provided in-service training about memory disorders for staff in nursing homes and hospitals as well as education at the high school and college level. From 1998-2001, she served as Health Care Coordinator for Alterra Clarebridge’s Special Dementia Care Residence.
Ashley Marino is our Social Services Care Manager and joined the MemoryCare staff in December 2006. She graduated from A-B Tech with an associate degree in Human Services Technology and Social Services. She completed an internship in Adult Day Services and is deeply committed to growth in her career in providing care management services to our patients and their families.
Suzann Coker is the Program Assistant/ Scheduler, joining the MemoryCare staff in September 2007. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Marketing and Management at the University of South Carolina. She has worked in both the public and private sector of accounting, retail sales, customer service and computer training.
Katie Wiles is the Director of Development for MemoryCare. She joined the staff in September 2006. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from UNC-Asheville and her Master of Public Affairs Degree from Western Carolina University. Katie has fundraising, grant writing, and public relations experience. She has 4 years of non-profit experience through previous employment and as a volunteer.
Ann Hendrix is the Office Administrator, joining the staff in June 2005. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Averett College in Danville, Virginia. Ann has bookkeeping, customer service, and teaching experience.
